Brethren Bear Groups

Our brethren bear groups in Australia and worldwide are brother groups that promote inclusivity and sharing of resources between us. Their members also benefit from discounts to key VicBears events and extend this discount to VicBears members.

Harbour City Bears is Sydney’s only community group for bears – hairy gay men – their admirers and friends.

They hold over 140 events each year – with weekly socials, dance parties, dinners and other outings throughout the year.

  • Two annual festivals – Bear Essentials during Mardi Gras, and Bear Pride in the cooler months, which attract visitors from interstate and overseas to celebrate Sydney’s vibrant bear culture.
  • Dance parties including Chunky, Bear Pit and the iconic Underbear.
  • Socials every Friday night at Kinselas Hotel in Darlinghurst and Sunday afternoon at The Bank Hotel in Newtown.
  • Press Paws, a monthly gaymer event
  • Community health & well-being events
  • Fundraising for community charities

The proceeds from their events and fundraising are all invested back into the club, or donated to the community charities that they support.

Brisbears started in 1993, in Brisbane, Queensland and currently holds around 200 members from all over the state, Australia, and the rest of the world. They come from all walks of life, and it is their compassionate, relaxed and non-judgemental attitude towards one another that represents the true hallmark of the bear community.

Each month they gather together for friendly times, and to celebrate common interests. They can be found within the Sportsman Hotel, Spring Hill on the 3rd Saturday of each month. So come on in, say woof to them, and give them a great, big, bear hug.

Whether you’re the typical hairy man, an admirer or just enjoy the company of friendly men who like to share a drink in a relaxed environment, Bear Men of Adelaide welcome all shapes and sizes from all walks of life.

Starting out as a social club to appreciate the bear form, they grew to become one of the pillars of the LGBTQI community, making their presence known within the greater LGBTQI community locally, nationally and abroad, as a forward-thinking club, they routinely organise events, activities for the Bear community and also for the wider LGBTQI community with that Bear attitude added.

But we will always remain the ground-up social group that enjoys a simple night at the pub as much as a dance party. That enjoys a community brunch walk as much as a bear man art exhibit.

As a socially conscious group, they always make sure we give back to the LGBTQI community; as well as fundraising for more Bear specific organisations like Bricks For Bears.

Most importantly, BMofA members respect and appreciate the opinions and sensibilities of others.

Bears Perth aims to provide a comfortable environment for socializing and meeting new men and making friends. You don’t have to be big, hairy or bearded to be welcome! They are not a sex club like Bath houses/Saunas etc.

They meet for Den Nights on the 2nd Saturday and the 4th Friday of the month at Loton Park Tennis Club, corner of Bulwer and Lord St, Highgate. You can join the club at a Den Night or just pay for a casual visit (usually $5 or $10). They also have additional social functions on the 2nd Sunday of the month at a member’s residence or venue as advised.

The Bear New Zealand group was formed in 2008 as an easy going social group for men who identified as Bears, Cubs etc or just enjoyed the company of like-minded guys.

The loosely-organised Bear group is a fun and inclusive community and a great way to keep in touch with furry friends and maybe meet some new ones.

They have movie nights, BBQ’s, theatre trips and more throughout the year but the Bear New Zealand Week is the major date in their calendar.

Starting in 2010, their successful Bear New Zealand Weeks have put Auckland on the international bear event map.
